1940s
Lorena Savacool Mayhugh '43 recently
returned to the United States after spending
thirty-nine months in Bangkok, Thailand.
She has been working under the Master's
Program of the International Mission Board
of the Southern Baptist Convention. Lorena
spent her first two years teaching missionary
children and then began teaching English
as a second language to adults at the Baptist
Student Center in Bangkok. Lorena will now
reside in San Diego, Calif.
1950s
Neita Frohmuth Geilker '56 was honored
by the Missouri Humanities Council as one
of the 2005 Governor's Humanities Award
recipients for her work on the Century House
Committee to design a plaque for the century-old
houses in Liberty, Mo. This committee encouraged
the home owners to purchase the plaque,
they designed a poster depicting the Century
Houses and they developed a guidebook, "Liberty's
Living Legacy."
1960s
Ron Kelley '60 retired from Truman
Medical Center in 2001. He served four terms
as President of Service Employees International
Union Local 96 in Kansas City. He recently
passed the Missouri State Pharmacy Technician
I certification test, and is working part
time as a pharmacy tech at Truman Medical
Center West. Ron is also a Flotilla Commander
for the US Coast Guard Auxiliary in south
Kansas City.
Larry Matthews '65 retired this past
summer as Assistant Vice President in charge
of the College Board, Midwestern Regional
Office, in Rosemont, Ill. He and Suzanne
Purdy Matthews '67 have moved to Richmond,
Vir. to be closer to their children and
grandchildren.
Darlene Marsh Lindsey '67 is a newly
licensed real estate agent for Realty Executives
of Kansas City.
Wence Cunningham '68 is the Director
of Public Housing for the Tampa, Fla. Housing
Authority. Wence is the chief administrator
of a department that provides housing for
low income families.
1970s
Stephen D. Jones '70 received The
Human Rights Campaign's Equality Award,
the highest award given in any year, for
his work as co-founder and co-convener of
the Religious Coalition for Equality and
for his work as President of the Church
Council of Greater Seattle.
Dan Griggs '73 was recently named
NAIA Region V Baseball coach of the Year.
He is head baseball coach at Benedictine
College.
Larry David Alonzo '76 has been elected
to the Executive Board of the Kansas City,
Kansas unit of the National Education Association.
In addition, he serves as the web manager
of the NEA-KCK web page. He has also been
named co-chair of the Kansas City chapter
of Gay Lesbian & Straight Education
Network, which is a national organization
that strives to assure each member of every
community is valued and respected.
Mark Morris '76 has co-authored a
book with Paul Janczewski entitled Fatal
Error. This book is being made into
a movie starring Anne Heche and Eric Roberts.
Mark and Paul may be seen as "extras"
in the movie, which was filmed in Halifax,
Nova Scotia.
Kent Peach '76 has been named Principal
for the McAuliffe Elementary School in the
Shawnee Mission (Kan.) School District.
Kent had previously been the assistant superintendent
for support services in the Liberty (Mo.)
School District.
Tim Still '77 has accepted the position
as Senior Vice President and Chief Operations
Officer for AIG SunAmerica Retirement Markets,
Inc. Tim will be responsible for all aspects
of client service and operations for the
company's variable annuity business.
1980s
Kirk Shield-Priddy '86 has been appointed
by Washington State Governor, Christine
Gregoire, to serve on her Juvenile Justice
Advisory Committee. This is a three-year
term. Kirk resides in Lynden, Wash.
Tim Johnson '88 has been named the
Center Executive at the YMCA Family Center
in Independence, Mo.
Nick Griffin '89 did his stand-up
routine on the David Letterman Show this
fall.
1990s
Brian Franciskato '90 and Dean
Nash '90 are partners in the Kansas
City law firm of McLeod, Nash and Franciskato.
Brian and Dean were Political Science majors
at Jewell, were roommates when they studied
at Oxford, one belonged to the Young Republicans,
the other to the Young Democrats and now
they're law firm partners.
Valerie Adair Gallup '92 was a featured
speaker at the VA Conference in St. Louis,
representing her business - a real estate
virtual assistance company. She is also
a trainer for REVA Training Center. Valerie
resides in Liberty, Mo.
Tammy Barton '93 graduated from the
Massage Therapy Training Institute in Kansas
City and is now employed at Balanced Health
and Fitness in the Brookside area of Kansas
City.
Traci Harper Wolf '94 has been a
stay-at-home mom for five years and has
returned to work at the Federal Reserve
Bank in Kansas City as a Senior Automation
Analyst. She and her husband, Eric, reside
in Kearney, Mo. with their sons, David and
Caleb.
Don Raby '96 has been appointed Vice
President and CFO of PBA Health, a company
that performs a wide variety of pharmaceutical
services including prescription benefits
to wholesale drug distribution to over 1,000
affiliated retail locations throughout the
Midwest.
Jason Richter '96 has been named
Director of International Sales for Farmland
Foods. Jason manages the production, marketing
and sales of pork products in Canada, the
Caribbean and Asia. Jason resides in Kansas
City.
Anthony Jones '98 graduated from
the American University of the Caribbean
Medical School in June and is now residing
in Lincoln, Neb.
Michelle Rook '98 earned her Master
of Architecture degree from the University
of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in May.
She has accepted a position with the Rochester
Regional Community Design Center in Rochester,
NY, a non-profit organization that offers
design guidance and recommendations through
participatory planning that re-establishes
the relationship between buildings, sites
and sense of community.
Kanesha Adams '99 received her Master's
degree in educational administration from
William Woods University and is now teaching
third grade at the Osage Beach Elementary
School in Osage Beach, Mo.
2000's
Donna Johnston '00 received her Master's
degree in Public Administration with an
emphasis in Health Administration from the
Bloch School of Business and Public Relations
at UMKC. She is the Executive Administrative
Assistant at the law firm of Polsinelli
Shalton Welte Suelthaus in Kansas City and
is working with the CEO, COO and general
counsel for the Stowers Institute for Medical
Research.
Nitesh Patel '01 and Amy Mudd
Patel '01 are both employed with the
U. S. Consulate General in Durban, South
Africa. Nitesh is in the Management Section
and Amy is the Political/Economic Officer.
Shanen Taylor '01 obtained a position
with Ethicon Endo-Surgery division of Johnson
& Johnson in Wichita, Kan. He is currently
working towards an MBA with an emphasis
in Healthcare Management.
Jackie Crenshaw '02 accepted the
position as Assistant Director of Undergraduate
Admissions for the College of Business at
Jacksonville University in Jacksonville,
Fla. She now resides in Orange Park, Fla.
Ashley DeVilbiss '02 has taken a
position with Kansas University Medical
Center with their Center of Excellence for
Minority Health and the Health Careers Pathway
Program.
Kimball Duncan '02 has developed
a unique, personalized and functional pacifier
clip for babies. She is marketing this product
on-line (www.clipadeedoodah.com).
Russell Babcock '03 took Second Place
in the Instrumental Division Spotlight Competition
at the 31st Annual Music in the Rockies
at Estes Park, Col. This event is sponsored
by the Gospel Music Association. Russell
was also the only pianist to make it through
the preliminary competition. Russell performs
concerts at churches and is also a piano
instructor with over forty students.
Tomika Anderson '04 is currently
completing a nine-month internship with
the Fire Education Corps in Southern California.
During her time with the corps, Tomika will
serve as a wild land fire fighter, work
on the area Indian reservations as an educator
in the school promoting fire safety, as
well as learning about the Native American
culture, and completing extensive GPS/GIS
mapping projects of the Southern California
region.
Mark Hilton '04 has accepted an engineering
position with Honeywell Federal Manufacturing
and Technologies in Kansas City.
Brian Gillenwater '05 and Kristin
Stonebraker Gillenwater '05 have been
accepted to medical school at Kansas City
University of Medicine and Biosciences for
the fall semester 2006. They reside in Kansas
City, Kan.
