REUNION WEEKEND OCTOBER 12-13
A two-day Reunion Weekend marked the annual celebration of the 50-, 60- and 70-year class reunions. On Thursday, October 12th, more than 50 alumni and spouses from the Classes of 1936, 1946 and 1956 joined together in the Yates-Gill College Union for a dinner during which attendees were regaled with wonderful stories of college life and beyond, participated in a medallion ceremony highlighting their milestone years and received greetings delivered from the College by Dr. David Sallee.

On Friday morning, October 13, reunion class members enjoyed a tour during a coffee held at the President’s Home and the stories continued, especially regarding time some of the reunion members spent either living or attending class in the President’s Home during the war years. Several women visited the upstairs rooms
where they lived while on campus and laughed about what living conditions were like when the college president slept in the next room.
The morning continued with a panel discussion featuring five students from different disciplines sharing what their |
Jewell experience has been like and their plans for the future. A terrific interactive conversation ensued about the differences in student life between now and the mid-50s with regard to campus culture and academics, but how
the passion for great learning remains.

The panel was followed by lunch and a campus tour that highlighted stories about the campus that were probably unfamiliar to most. One special alumnus, Ralph Shank ‘36, passed up the opportunity for the tour so he could visit with his great-grandson Jarrod Hammond, a member of the current WJC Senior class.
Many of the alumni attending the Reunion Weekend continued their stay and participated in Homecoming events. Everyone had such a wonderful time together that the classes began making plans for the next time they can gather on campus and celebrate their time together at Jewell.
