Harriman-Jewell Series Season
The Harriman-Jewell Series is passionate about the performing arts. And it's that passion that has guided the selection of artists and ensembles for the Program's upcoming season of performances to be held in downtown Kansas City venues. While the highly respected organization has been presenting events since 1965, it is far from complacent. "Our audiences anticipate a high level of artistry in what we bring to Kansas City," said Clark Morris, the Series' executive director. "But just beyond artistry is an audience appetite for freshness and innovation, and we are proud to provide them the whole, satisfying meal."
Of 15 performances next season, nine are Kansas City debuts. And what is fresher than a world premiere? The 42nd Harriman-Jewell Series season opens on Friday, September 15, with a world premiere of a dance work that draws from the 1930's heyday of Kansas City entitled
Kansas City Orfeo. The full-evening work by the renowned choreographer Pascal Rioult will be performed by the creator's own dance company, the New York-based Pascal Rioult Dance Theatre (see the description below).
More than 700 performances have come to Kansas City by way of the Harriman-Jewell Series including 17 American recital debuts by prominent vocalists and instrumentalists. The cumulative impact and enduring quality of its programming has earned the Series recognition as a premier contributor to the region's cultural landscape.
In the new season, the Harriman-Jewell Series
continues the recent tradition of offering
two free concerts to the Kansas City-area
community. In an effort to make artistry
more accessible, the two "new artists
for new audiences" Discovery concerts
are free to the public: 13-year-old pianist
Peng Peng plays in November and 17-year-old
violinist Nicola Benedetti performs in April.
The Harriman-Jewell Series season of events is segmented into series packages so that patrons may select all that suit their interests. All series packages are on sale now; single-event tickets are available for purchase beginning on August 15.
