1940s

W. Carl Hunker '40 is drawing from his years living in China to serve as pastor emeritus for the Chinese Baptist Church Emmanuel in Lenexa, Kan.

Barbara Brown '43 retired from her profession of genealogy. She was a certified genealogist from 1971-2001.

Ellen Li '43 is planning a trip to China in August to attend the Summer Olympics.


1950s

Doran McCarty '52, after spending most of his life in the ministry in St. Augustine, Fla., was recently asked to travel to China as a representative to help start new churches.

William L. Hooper '53 has written two books, "Music Leadership for the Worship Leader" in 2007 and "Worship Planning for the Worship Leader" in 2008. He is currently serving as minister to senior adults at First Baptist Church of Bolivar, Mo.

Ellen H. McDonald '55 is pursuing her passion for the sciences. She is in the midst of researching ad writing a book about granite.

Joy L. Moad-Steiner '56 has retired from her teaching career and is enjoyed traveling extensively in Europe and through the Panama Canal.


1960s

Ron Kelley '60 received an achievement award for twenty-five years of service at CVS Pharmacy.

Bill Snyder '62 was inducted into the Holiday Bowl Hall of Fame recognition the contribution and success of the Kansas State University Football teams during their three Holiday Bowl game appearances.

Dan Lambert '63, president emeritus of Baker University, continues his services on the boards of the Lawrence (Kan.) Memorial Hospital and the Douglas County Community Foundation. He and Carolyn Bright Lambert '65 divide their time between their homes in Lawrence, Kan., and Hilton Head Island, S.C. They have traveled to Ireland and Italy since Dan's retirement in 2006.

Robert "Bob" J. Mann '63 is serving with his wife Judith as Co-Directors of Shadowcliff Lodge and Conference Center in Grand Lake, Colo.

Karen Curnett Wilson '63 and Mary Keller Keck '63 toured the Tuscany area of Italy in September 2005. They are Beta Sigma Omicron sorority sisters.

Thomas Durnin '68 worked in Melbourne, Australia for four months in 2007. Thomas and his wife Barbara Woods Durnin '68 enjoyed snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef as well as seeing the rain forest, the 75-year-old Sidney Bridge and other sights.


1970s

Nancy Brenneman Anderson '73 came out of retirement to become an adjunct professor at Central Methodist University, supervising the student teachers in the education department.

Julia Moore Bodenhamer '73 was awarded the Roads Scholar Award for distinguished educators and lifelong learners. Roads Scholar is an initiative of Elderhostel, the world's largest not-for-profit educational travel organization for adults. The award was a trip to any location worldwide. Julia and her husband, James, took a 31,000 mile, 51–day trip to Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and China.

Georgia Pearson Brady '73 retired after 34 years of teaching speech and debate in the Blue Springs' school district. She is currently working with the National Education Association on political activities. Georgia and her family reside in Blue Springs, Mo.

Emma Farley Duncan '73 raises Arabian horses. One horse won Supreme Halter Champion and The Lexington Award at the American Royal in Kansas City, Mo., in September 2007.

Karen Poynter Fahrmeier '73 accepted a teaching position in Anchorage, Alaska. She is an intensive needs special educator at Kincaid Elementary School. She enjoys the area and scenery so much that she plans to continue teaching in the 2008-2009 school year.

Michelle Pell '73 has accepted a new position with the Glynn County School District in Brunswick, Georgia. She will be working with students completing credit recovery courses at Glynn Academy High School and Risley Alternative Center. Michelle returned to the states in 2005 after teaching high school on U.S. military bases overseas in Nuremberg, Germany for four years and Seoul, Republic of Korea for twelve years.

Constance Cornelius White '73 received her master's of arts in education/cross-categorical special education from the University of Phoenix.

Larry Hassel '78 traveled to Harlaxton last year and had an opportunity to visit former WJC president, Dr. Gordon Kingsley.

Sally Masters '79 was awarded the Massachusetts School Counselor Association's Human Rights Award. Sally is the guidance coordinator at Hampshire Regional High School.


1980s

Scott Brecheisen '80 was named in the 2007 edition of "Guide to American's Top Dentists." He was also selected as "Best Dentist" in Bartlesville, Okla. for the second year in a row. He and Cheryl Holt Brecheisen '81 reside in Bartlesville.

Donna Bennett '81 was awarded Teacher of the Year for Webster Elementary School in Webster, Fla. This is the third time she has received this honor. Donna has taught first grade at Webster for 20 years.

Larry Thompson '83 is CEO of Vantage Point Solutions which he founded in 2002. Larry is also chairman of the board of Mitchell Christian School in Mitchell, S.D.

Denice Thornhill '83 traveled Japan by rail in September 2007.

Ron Hazelrigg '84 and his brother, Wes, have purchased the American Music Company, which specializes in the sales of sheet music to schools, churches, and private instructional teachers.

Jeff Phillips '87 was inducted into the Holiday Bowl Hall of Fame, receiving the Kathy Herney 110% Memorial Award for his extraordinary volunteer efforts.

David Porter '87 recently accepted the position of head coach of the Kansas City Storm, a women's full-contact football team, which competes in the National Women's Football Association (FWFA). He also continues to serve as Principal of Enterprise Legal Solutions, LLC, in Kansas City, Mo.

Greg Duncan '88 was elected to a four-year term on the city council for Liberty, Mo., in April 2007.


1990s

Daryn Ross '90 won the title of Extraordinary Marketer of the Year at the annual Marketing and Moneymaking Superconference in Chicago, Ill. Nearly one thousand top-notch marketing professionals and business owners from eleven countries were present. Of this group, six were chosen to present and Daryn won the title.

Steve McCracken '92 earned a master's in business administration from the University of Nevada – Las Vegas, December 2007.

Wesley "Brent" Powell '92 was appointed circuit judge of the 16th Judicial Circuit by Missouri Governor Matt Blunt. Brent currently is executive assistant U.S. attorney in Kansas City, Mo. He has also held positions in the U.S. attorney's office as chief of the general crimes unit and assistant U.S. attorney for the narcotics unit.

David Ingle '93 works as a teleradiologist with Team Health Teleradiology in Knoxville, Tenn.

Larry D. Wigger '93 received a master's in supply chain management from Elmhurst College.

Wesley Clarkson '94 will complete his cardiology fellowship in June 2008. Wesley will then move into a staff cardiology position in the U.S. Army.

Danny McCubbin '96 was named principal of Life Christian Academy, a pre-school through 8th grade independent school in Kansas City, Mo.

Lindsay Holley Brett '98 recently taped an episode of the television game show "Wheel of Fortune" in Culver City, Calif.

Jennifer Jackson Garrett '98 earned her master's degree in information science and library technologies from the University of Missouri.

Carmen Golden Keith '98 graduated from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences with a doctor of medicine in May 2004. She will complete her anesthesiology residency at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in June 2008. Carmen will begin her fellowship in pain management at the Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School in July 2008.

Mark Singleton '98 is the music director at Immanuel Congregational Church in Hartford, Conn., and for the past six years has been the choral conductor of the 80-voice Eastern Connecticut Symphony Chorus.

Sarah Wilson '98 was named clinical coordinator of the Acute Rehabilitation Services Team in July 2007. She is also a pediatric occupational therapist for Vanderbilt Children's Hospital in Rehabilitation Services, in Nashville, Tenn.

Christopher Barnes '99 was named assistant director for Aon Risk Services. He will be a part of the leadership team building a new southeast region office for Aon Aviation in Atlanta, Ga.

Kimberly Flowers '99 is a diplomat based in Ethiopia, Africa. She has been a development outreach and communications officer for the U.S. Agency for International Development since June 2005.

Emily Webber Salisbury '99 earned her Ph.D. in criminal justice at the University of Cincinnati. Currently she is an assistant professor of criminology and criminal justice at Portland State University in Portland, Ore.


2000s

Derek Blankenship '00 received his Ph.D. in biostatistics from the University of Oklahoma.

Thomas K. Mendel '00 received his Juris Doctor from the University of Missouri - School of Law in May 2007. He is now practicing law as an associate at the Noland Law Firm, LLC with Douglas F. Noland '75 in Liberty, Mo.

Sara Boren Luesse '01 was inducted into the honor society Phi Kappa Phi. She also is a member of the North American Society of Adlerian Psychotherapy's (NASAP) St. Louis chapter. Sara is working to finish her graduate degree in counseling from the University of Missouri – St. Louis.

Amanda Butler '03 won the "Best of the Show" Student Addy Award at the 2007 Nashville Advertising Federation Show.

Ashley Fulk '03 is currently working on her certification to teach Spanish K-12 and her master's in secondary education at University of Missouri – Kansas City.

Ryan Grantham '03 is temporarily working in Bangkok, Thailand for DST Systems Incorporated Output. His work at DST Systems Incorporated has taken him to a number of countries, including Cambodia, Vietnam and China.

Lindsey Gronewold '03 plans to graduate from Kansas City University of Medicine & Biosciences spring 2008 and has been accepted into the pediatrics residency program at Texas Children's Hospital through Baylor University. The results of Lindsey's paper entitled, "Physician Licensure During Disasters: A National Survey of State Medical Boards," was recently published in an issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA).

Greg Henson '03 is executive director of advancement and enrollment management at Northern Seminary in Lombard, Ill.

Sarah Hensley Miller '03 received the English for Speakers of Other Languages certification endorsement on her teaching license. She was also named Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year for 2004-2005.

Amy Ruse '03 studied social work in Korea, earned her master's of social work, and is working on a clinical social work license. Amy resides in Kansas City, Mo.

Steve Smith '03 has completed his master's in business administration at Mid-America Nazarene University.

Andrew Johnson '05 was promoted to the Food and Fund-drive Manager at Harvesters: the Community Food Network in Kansas City, Mo.

Michael Bruening '06 is a commercial banking officer with Enterprise Bank & Trust in North Kansas City, Mo.

Julia Nurse '06 is an English teacher with the Council on International Educational Exchange in Bedmar, Spain.

Chris Rosson '06 is one of 12 nationally selected recipients for the prestigious George J. Mitchell Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded annually to 12 Americans, under the age of 30, to pursue a year of post-graduate study at any university in Ireland. Chris is currently a graduate student at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced and International Studies in Washington, D.C. He will use the scholarship to study at Queen's University Belfast, with a focus on violence, terrorism and security issues.

Justin Barclay '07 accepted the position of support analyst for Cerner Corporation.
