"A Valentine from Mozart" holiday candlelight concert will be presented by the Kansas City Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Music Director Bruce Sorrell '83, featuring renowned baritone Daniel Belcher '92. JEWELL CERAMICS INVITATIONAL EXHIBIT through February 23
The Stocksdale Gallery of William Jewell College continues its exhibition season by featuring a ceramics group show by the William Jewell ceramics department faculty, studio staff and selected ceramic artists from the Kansas City area. The exhibit will run through February 23. The gallery is located on the second floor of Brown Hall. The group exhibit will feature a variety of techniques and designs in ceramic media. Most of the pieces will be available for purchase. LIBERTY SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
Jewell students Brittany Williams, soprano and Joshua Lawlor, baritone, winners of the Collegiate Vocal Music Contest, will perform songs by Mozart, Menotti and Vaughn Williams with the Liberty Symphony Orchestra during their Classical Concert at 7:30 p.m., February 17 at the Liberty Performing Arts Theater. JUDY SHEPARD LECTURE
Judy Shepard, opponent of anti-gay violence and mother of the late Matthew Shepard, will offer a free public lecture at 7:30 p.m. Monday, February 26 in John Gano Memorial Chapel. Doors will open for general admission seating at 7:15 p.m. The public is invited to attend; reservations or tickets are not required.
In 1998, Judy Shepard lost her son, Matthew, to a murder motivated by anti-gay hate. Determined to prevent Matthew’s fate from befalling others, she turned her tragedy into a crusade for justice by establishing The Matthew Shepard Foundation to help carry on her son’s legacy. Shepard has testified before the United States Senate in support of the Hate Crimes Prevention Act.
Free parking is available in the commuter lot just inside the main campus entrance at R.E. Bowles Drive and Mill Street, or in the Mabee Center for Physical Education lot just off of H Highway on the east side of the campus. Parking is limited on campus; an early arrival is suggested.
