If you’re like me, you sometimes get tired of hearing the bad news. Reports of crime, wars, natural disasters, and economic woes always seem to make the headlines, but the good news of people helping people, economic success, and improved lives seldom gets mentioned.

But, as you’ll discover in this issue of Harvest, there is good news to report! On page 1, you’ll read how your generous response to our appeal in May helped SIM prevent a devastating, widespread famine in the Kaffrine area of Senegal.

God Heals
Our desire is to show God’s love by meeting the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the sick and suffering.
The young woman rushed from her literacy class with a spring in her step and joy in her eyes. Could this possibly be the same woman who just months before sat lethargically without a hint of a smile on her face? Yes!

Although persistent illnesses had drained her energy and being abandoned by her husband had stolen her joy, HOPE for AIDS volunteers had befriended her, counseled her, and encouraged her to go for HIV testing and treatment. Now she is rebuilding her life.

While her story is remarkable, it is exactly what SIM aims to accomplish in many lives through our HOPE for AIDS program in Malawi and elsewhere. Our desire is to show God’s love by meeting the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the sick and suffering.

Currently, SIM is administering HOPE for AIDS Home-Based Care programs in six different rural locations in Malawi. But with continued support from friends like you, we hope to expand our outreach to eight programs within the next two years.

These programs will help those affected and infected with HIV and AIDS by offering practical in-home care and access to medical treatment to the sick, training in caregiving, AIDS prevention education, and guidance to help communities develop income-generating activities.

Please pray that these programs will help people see that when God is on their side, they can tackle whatever life brings with real HOPE in our powerful God.
