MALAWI
Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world,
but the people of this needy land also face a far
more devastating problem than poverty.
The incidence of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Malawi
is so high that this disease will overwhelm the
population soon if it is not checked. More than
1 million people in a country of 11 million are
already infected, and in urban areas 25 percent
of adults are HIV-positive.
SIM has been addressing HIV/AIDS head-on for some
years now-and we recently took a major step forward
in this battle with the opening of our new Partners
in Hope Medical Center in Lilongwe, Malawi. This
center is the realization of a dream for many people
who long to bring hope to a country ravaged by the
effects of HIV/AIDS.
The prayerful support of you and many other SIM
partners helped build this beautiful new medical
center, and we want you to rejoice with us in answered
prayer. The center will provide medical services
and specialized HIV/AIDS care, including antiretroviral
drugs, and also promote prevention through its Voluntary
Counseling and Test Center and an Action for Behavior
Change unit.
God is in the business of rebuilding broken lives
in Malawi. We pray that He will use the Partners
in Hope Medical Center to bring many suffering people
hope both now and for eternity.
