SUDAN A recent survey of southern Sudan found that the SIM-related Sudan Interior Church has 200 churches and 300 preaching points where people are gathering to hear the Word of God. The total number involved could be between 100,000 and 200,000 people who are desperately in need of sound Bible teaching and discipleship after more than twenty years without input from the outside world. Please pray that as God uses SIM and your partnership to rebuild Sudan, the church there will also be put on solid footing for future outreach and discipleship. The church in Nigeria and in Ethiopia have agreed to send teacher/evangelists to work in southern Sudan. Pray for this major initiative on the part of these churches as they partner with SIM to help people who are struggling to recover from more than two decades of civil war. These teacher/evangelists will be engaged in pioneer missionary work similar to, or even more difficult than, that which Western missionaries faced when they entered Africa 100 years ago! ETHIOPIA SIM missionaries in Ethiopia have been working extensively on a literacy program for the Banna people. Praise the Lord that their project proposal for the next four years was finally signed by government officials at the end of June. Please pray that all of the Banna people will have an opportunity to read and hear the truth of God's Word in their own language. PERU A workshop for training workers in children's ministries has recently been completed. Pray that those who attend will become involved in children's ministries in the rural churches of the Cusco area. Pray also that God will give them good ideas for teaching people who are primarily "oral learners."
