SIM Friends Play Key Role in Sudan's Future

SUDAN

God has opened exciting doors for you and other committed SIM ministry partners to help shape the future of southern Sudan through Rebuilding Sudan: Nation and Church. A recent peace agreement formally ended two decades of civil war that killed more than two million people and left the south in ruins. According to Howard Brant of SIM International,"The situation there changes almost every day. "No one knows yet how the recent peace accord between the Muslim government and non-Muslim forces will impact Sudan, because the Northern Islamic government's hope is still to impose strict Muslim law on the country. But whatever happens politically, the people of south Sudan need our help in every way imaginable."

Many Needs

The original thrust of Rebuilding Sudan was to establish teacher training centers to provide for the educational needs of southern Sudan's youngest children. We are selecting the sites for the first five of these centers and are praying for funds to be provided by faithful ministry partners like you. In one exciting development, the SIM related Kale Heywet Church in Ethiopia is hoping to send 10 teacher trainers/evangelists to southern Sudan to begin the project. SIM is moving forward with these plans, but Brant also says a recent survey revealed four other areas of great need: high school and secondary education, basic health, agriculture, and clean water development. Brant says opportunities for SIM in southern Sudan are great, despite the devastation. "Because the Muslims who live in the south did not want to be identified as Muslims in the rebel area, they often asked Christians to come and explain the gospel to them!" The future of Sudan is being shaped today. We ask our faithful SIM supporters to stand with us for the long haul in this part of the world as we trust God for the resources needed to help rebuild southern Sudan. Project 098012
