GERMANY

Last May, veteran SIM missionaries Ben and Gerlinde Skaggs were enjoying some well-deserved time away in Germany, Gerlinde's home country. Unfortunately, she was severely injured in a fall from her bicycle during a family outing.

Gerlinde's head injury was so severe that initially her life hung in the balance. She was in a deep coma for weeks before slowly emerging. With God's help, she has endured surgery and months of exhausting therapy in an attempt to regain basic functions.

The outcome is uncertain, as Gerlinde remains in very serious condition and makes slow progress. We urge you to join friends around the world in praying for Ben, Gerlinde, and their children.

Ben has been faithfully at his wife's side during this ordeal. And even as he and

the entire SIM family pray for Gerlinde's recovery, this remarkable servant of the Lord prayed at the beginning of this trial that God would use him in any way He saw fit.

Not surprisingly, Ben was soon teaching a daily Bible study course with 12 young professionals in Dresden. He uses a chronological Bible study course he originally developed for use among the Me'en people of Ethiopia where tremendous growth resulted.

The Skaggs are a wonderful example of the selfless people who live sacrificial lives to serve the Lord with SIM. We earnestly seek your prayers on their behalf, in particular as the German national medical insurance has denied their claim for the bulk of Gerlinde's enormous bills. Pray also for SIM as we negotiate these costs with the German government.
