Whenever I read reports from Claudia Long about Camp
Youth Alive (click here),
my mind travels back to a special camp I attended when
I was just a kid. To this day, I consider that camp one
of the most significant influences on my entire life.
Every summer that camp challenged me to live out the Christian
life, to reflect Christ at school, to be a witness for
Him, and to share the gospel whenever I could. It was
a tremendous opportunity to get away from my normal routine
and focus my attention wholly on Christ. |

Skills for
Youth in Rural Areas Program Helps Young People Become
Self-Supporting
Life in a rural Nigerian village can be frustrating for
gifted young men and women who want to be self-supporting
but lack marketable skills.
That's why your support of SIM's Skills for Youth in
Rural Areas is so important. Thanks to your prayers
and gifts, our trainers are busy helping young people
learn skills that allow them to earn a living in their
own communities, rather |
|
than leaving for uncertain futures in the big cities. In addition,
the program provides small loans that help trainees begin or
develop a business of their own.
Adams, a young man who took over his father's bakery business,
had no money to buy flour or wood for his oven. Thanks to a
loan from the Skills for Youth in Rural Areas
program, he was able to buy what he needed to make
bread. Now he has secured a contract to supply 2,460 loaves
per week to the local Christian junior high school.

John, a young farmer, received improved soybean seed
from the program. Despite heavy rains that season, John
had a good soybean harvest. He also harvested tomatoes,
carrots, and red peppers to sell in the local market.
John was so grateful for the help he received that when
it came time to repay the program for the seed, he gave
back nine times the required amount!
These are just two of many remarkable success stories
from the program. As SIM missionary Roger Upson, the joint
project manager, said recently, "We believe we are
making an impact in the lives of people in this area."
Our thanks go out to all who have supported this exciting
ministry that is helping young people in rural Nigeria
stay and build a brighter future for themselves and their
families.
