I hope you are as encouraged as I am by the many wonderful ways that God is using your gifts in His harvest fields. That's one of the main reasons we produce the Harvest newsletter you are reading right now. We want you to know that your generous gifts to this ministry are truly making an impact in lives around the world.
But there is another--and equally important--reason for this publication. It's to help you pray more effectively for the people and ministries of SIM.
There is no weapon more powerful for advancing the gospel, nor any defense so sure against the attacks of the devil, than prayer.

Ato Berhanu* had been in his house for an unusually long time. Although the neighbors were concerned, they did not visit him. They were afraid. They suspected that Berhanu had AIDS.
Fortunately, Abebech*, a volunteer from SIM’s Medan Center, became aware of Berhanu’s situation. She went to his house and found him bedridden with no one to help him. His wife had died six years ago, and his 16-year-old son was away at school.
Abebech washed him, prepared food, cleaned his house, and took him to Medan for an HIV test. He tested positive, so she took him to a government hospital--carrying him on her back when he was too weak to walk. After receiving anti-AIDS drugs, they returned to his home where Abebech continues to visit, cook, and clean for Berhanu.
In addition, Medan gives Berhanu soap, sugar, flour, beans, and $11 per month so that his son does not have to drop out of school to support his father.
When a nurse from Medan visited Berhanu, his eyes welled up |

with tears. "I am speechless; you saved my life. I am so thankful . . . Medan has changed my life, and now I have joy and hope."
Because of your generous support, Berhanu is just one of about 120 people with AIDS who are served by Medan. Each of them has experienced the love of Christ through the caring, compassionate hands of our volunteers and staff who understand the urgency of meeting both the physical and spiritual needs of people with AIDS.
