I hope you are as encouraged as I am by the many wonderful ways that God is using your gifts in His harvest fields. That's one of the main reasons we produce the Harvest newsletter you are reading right now. We want you to know that your generous gifts to this ministry are truly making an impact in lives around the world.

But there is another--and equally important--reason for this publication. It's to help you pray more effectively for the people and ministries of SIM. There is no weapon more powerful for advancing the gospel, nor any defense so sure against the attacks of the devil, than prayer.

How beautiful . . . are the feet of those who bring good news. --Isaiah 52:7

Many of Nigeria’s national missionaries work among Muslims and unreached people groups in areas where schools are inadequate or nonexistent. Consequently, many missionary children have grown up without receiving quality instruction.

But now, thanks to generous gifts from friends like you, SIM sponsors a school in Nigeria that provides these missionary children with a safe, loving environment and a good education.

But one of those children, Abner, had little hope for a prosperous future even with a good education. Polio had crippled him at age 7. No longer able to walk, Abner crawled for the next seven years of his life. Despite his disability, however, Abner did well in school and was popular among his fellow students.
Thankful for God's grace in allowing him to regain the ability to walk, Abner wants to become a missionary pastor when he grows up.

Abner also captured the hearts of visiting missionaries from the United States. God gave them great compassion for Abner, and through their efforts, Abner was admitted to an orthopedic hospital in Kano in August 2005.

For the next several months, Abner endured painful therapies, never knowing for sure what the outcome would be. Yet Abner remained positive and thankful. He made friends with the other patients, and everyone loved him.

In January, with braces on his legs and crutches to assist him, Abner walked into his village where his missionary father greeted him with tears of joy. The villagers, recognizing God’s hand at work, called him a miracle. The Great Physician had healed Abner! That visible work of God showed God’s love and power to many people in need of the gospel.

Today, with the joy of the Lord in his heart and the miracle of healing in his life, Abner wants to follow in the footsteps of his father and become a missionary pastor when he grows up. By God’s grace Abner may one day not only walk, but run to tell people about Jesus!
