Record-Setting Collegiate Member Recruitment - Referrals Still Needed
Our collegiate chapters have had an excellent recruitment season, with many chapters showing significant growth and some boasting record-setting candidate classes. Several chapters have more than doubled their active chapter size. For example: our Epsilon Chi Chapter at Bowling Green State University took a candidate class of 24 with an active chapter size of 16; our Eta Gamma Chapter at Georgia State University with an active chapter of 36 men recruited 40 candidates; and our Gamma Chi Chapter at the University of Washington recruited 20 candidates with an active chapter of 17 men.
Other chapters have increased the size of their candidate class, drawing more men than previous years. The Kappa Pi Chapter at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, a chapter of 52 actives handed out 34 bids to take a candidate class of 30 men This is a considerable improvement, since previous classes numbered 11, 17, and 12 in recent years. Chapter at Louisiana State University, in their first semester as a re-chartered chapter, took a 32-man candidate class with an active chapter size of 42.
It is no coincidence that these chapters have had such great success during the same year Sigma Nu launched The Recruitment Bluebook, a step-by-step instruction manual explaining how to create a values-based, year-round recruitment plan. The Fraternity also unveiled a new web site targeted specifically toward potential members: www.becomeasigmanu.org.
Bill McCorkle (Beta Theta) and his son Will McCorkle (Mu). Will was initiated by Mu Chapter on November 9, 2008. |

The successful chapters mentioned above implemented tactics from the Bluebook, such as utilizing a Master Prospect List, creating an incentive program for the chapter, sticking to a calendar, involving alumni in recruitment, and the list goes on. But Sigma Nu’s recruitment strategies are about more than just numbers; they help chapters identify, recruit, and attract to membership the type of man who truly represents the values of our Fraternity.
Membership in Sigma Nu is a lifelong commitment, a concept every prospect should understand when considering our Fraternity. Alumni involvement is the most underrated and often the most under-used recruitment resource; however, chapters with alumni participation in recruitment are

often the most successful. Each alumnus provides a wealth of knowledge, life experiences, and fraternal devotion, and can add another layer of understanding to the recruitment process.
Alumni can not only help with recruitment by offering their experience, attending events or assisting in event planning, but also by submitting membership referrals for any prospective members to our web site: http://www.becomeasigmanu.org/membershipreferral.
