Amazingly Nu

(circa 1975)
As a service to our chapters, The General Fraternity rolled
out five newly designed Sigma Nu recruitment posters for use on college campuses. Focused on ideas of education and leadership, one poster even incorporated the name "Sigma Nu" into a labyrinth-like design.

The Challenge to Grow our Ranks

In the last biennium, past Regent Don Densborn (Indiana) and members of our High Council put forth the most aggressive strategic plan Sigma Nu Fraternity had ever seen. Among numerous other forward-focused goals, that plan also called for the Fraternity to "grow its number of new members
pledged and initiated by 10%, annually, beginning in the 2008-2009 academic year."

Perhaps a goal that was easier to put in writing than to achieve in real life, Director of Recruitment Jon Sprenger (Drury) knew he would have to take an innovative approach to his efforts. "With nearly 180 chapters and roughly 7500 undergraduate members across North America, we wanted to give each member the ability to take ownership of this stretch goal. After all, the undergraduates are the lifeblood of our organization," said Sprenger.
10% Challenge Pays Big Dividends

As expected, chapters that accepted our 10% Challenge are now more than meeting that goal and we’ve got the early returns to prove it! Pictured here are some of the new members from our Mu Tau Chapter at the University of Central Oklahoma. According to Recruitment Chairman Nick Gray, the current 19-man active chapter was able to recruit a total of 19 new men this fall utilizing the techniques outlined in Sigma Nu’s Values-Based Recruitment Program.
And, Mu Tau is certainly not alone in their recruitment success. Here are just a handful of other success snapshots from across the country. . .

The Winds of Change

Though the winds of change are constant and the Fraternity’s Rose "is a physical reminder of our undying tradition of change," the fundamental purpose and principles of Sigma Nu remain steadfast and timeless. In fact, Sigma Nu teaches that our Rock "is a symbol of our enduring strength" and, like our ideals, "it is unchanging, constant." So, when faced with organizational change, we recognize it for what it is, return to our strengths and embrace the inevitable.

James Owens and Brad Hastings

Such change is underway within the Sigma Nu Educational Foundation. Executive Vice President James Owens (Charleston) will begin the next chapter of his career starting January 1, 2007. Brother Owens said recently, "I began working for Sigma Nu upon
graduating from college in 1987 and have thoroughly enjoyed my service to the Legion of Honor. Now, as I begin my 20th year here in Lexington, another opportunity has presented itself that I cannot let pass."
Undergraduate Members: We Want Your Photos!

The General Fraternity is in the process of developing a new, stand-alone recruitment web site and is currently looking for appropriate digital images to include on those pages. Candid shots and composed images depicting
brotherhood, friendship and fun are
encouraged and all submissions must be received in high resolution digital format for consideration
(3.2 megapixels or greater .jpg or .tif). Unique angles, interesting action shots and a shallow depth of field are also strongly encouraged.

Please Note: All images submitted will become the property of Sigma Nu Fraternity, Inc., and may be cropped/edited/re-touched prior to use.

For more information about this project, including how to submit your photos for consideration, please contact Director of Recruitment Jon Sprenger at (540) 463-1869.
