Returning Home. . . Celebrating 50 years in Flushing, Mich.
On October 7th and 8th, the men of Delta Chi Rho (now known as the Eta Mu Chapter of Sigma Nu Fraternity) will be returning home. . . at least for the weekend. And, in honor of the 50 years this combined group of men has occupied their beloved chapter home in Flushing, Mich., it certainly looks like they will have cause to celebrate. |

Purchased in January 1956, the former Murray Dailey family residence had its fair share of Delta Chi Rho initiates before the local group became affiliated with Sigma Nu Fraternity in 1963. And, although the physical structure has undergone significant changes over the years, it has always remained an important symbol of pride for both the men of Delta Chi Rho and Sigma Nu’s Eta Mu chapter.
As one of the oldest Fraternity houses among the Kettering Greek Community, the Sigma Nu house had always been entirely owned and operated by the undergraduate chapter officers. In fact, it was likely the only chapter house in the country with such an arrangement. Then, back in March of 2006, a historic milestone was reached when alumni and undergraduate members agreed to create an Alumni Housing Corporation to protect and maintain the chapter’s most precious asset.
Since the formation of the Housing Corporation, over $100K has been raised to help make much-needed repairs and improvements to the physical structure. Some of these improvements have already begun, including a fresh coat of paint throughout the interior, new flooring in all common areas, updates to the plumbing and bathrooms throughout the house, new illuminated exit signs, and general improvements to the surrounding grounds and landscaping.
Both sections (A & B) of the Eta Mu chapter will be assisting with the celebration planned for early October. The program for the weekend includes formal presentations from the General Fraternity, keynote speeches from a handful of original Delta Chi Rho members, the dedication of a newly renovated room in the chapter house, a family barbeque, and a golf outing at the Flushing Country Club.
When asked what he thinks about all of the fuss, Kettering University’s Chapter Advisor of the Year Tom Plotkowski said, "I think it’s great that I can come back and share my experiences with my brothers young and old." Tom and many others have been giving back to the chapter because they recognize how much their lives were influenced by times they shared while living in that house on the corner of Elms and Flushing.
The General Fraternity congratulates the men of Delta Chi Rho and Eta Mu chapter - Here’s to 50 more outstanding years in the Flushing community!
