Bid
for Brotherhood a Huge Success
A great time was had by all who attended the
inaugural Bid for Brotherhood (B4B) live and
silent auction. The B4B was held on July 14,
2006, in conjunction with the 62nd Grand Chapter.
James Owens, Executive Vice President stated,
"As our first auction of this type, we
really did not know how many people to plan
for or what to expect. The Committee had established
a goal of raising $10,000 and having 100 alumni
attend the event." |

The
Foundation was pleasantly surprised when over 170
alumni and guests attended. The emcee, Brother Pat
Shoulders (Indiana), and the auctioneer, Brother
Boyd Allison (Old Dominion), were a dynamic duo.
Craig Haesemeyer, President of the Educational Foundation
said, "Brothers Pat and Boyd were simply amazing.
One would think that they had worked together for
years, rather than meeting for the first time earlier
tonight. They made the B4B a success!"
During the live auction, Brother Sabah Al-Jooda (Washington University) surprised the auctioneer by contributing two pieces of Iraqi art and a set of turquoise prayer beads that he brought with him on his flight from Baghdad the previous day. The artwork pieces, one vintage and the other new, were copper and alloy trays from the Baghdad copper market.
The B4B raised over $36,400 to support the educational programs of the Fraternity. Popular items, like the 45 customized bottles of Maker's Mark that went for an average of $267 per bottle, contributed to the excitement of the evening. Mike Long, Chairman of the Educational Foundation stated, "Given the success of this event, I'm certain that we will make the Bid for Brotherhood an ongoing affair at future Grand Chapters!"
Special thanks to the members of the B4B Committee:
Brother Darrell Pike (Butler), Brother Mike Goens
(Butler), Mary Ellen Gillespie (Alpha Phi) and Brother
James Owens (Charleston) for their hard work in
securing items from alumni and Indianapolis area
businesses for the event. Also, for the numerous
alumni that contributed items, without your generosity,
this event never could have been such a great success!
