Boyd Tinsley composes the score for ESPN’s coverage of Wimbledon

Boyd Tinsley (Virginia), violinist for Dave Matthews Band, has composed a new score for ESPN’s coverage of Wimbledon. ESPN has been shooting a documentary on the creation of this score which will air around the 2006 tournament (June 26-July 9, 2006).

While millions know of Boyd’s impact in the music industry, you may not know that he is an avid tennis player. Not only does he play the game, he supports its development at all levels. Since 2002, he has hosted the Boyd Tinsley $50,000 USTA Women’s Pro Tennis
Championships held annually at the Boar's Head Inn in Charlottesville, VA (May 1-8, 2006). In addition, he established the Boyd C. Tinsley Foundation which supports scholarships and transportation for children participating in the Charlottesville Tennis Patrons Association program.

David Brewer, USTA Senior Director, Pro Tournaments, said of Boyd’s involvement, "Having the opportunity to work with such an outstanding person as Boyd Tinsley, who is committed to bringing tennis to the community level and has a passion for the game, means a great deal to the bright future of our sport."

"I benefited from these kinds of opportunities when I was a kid, and I’d like to do the same for kids in Charlottesville today," said Tinsley. "I love playing tennis - I sometimes play two hours a day - so it’s one of the things I want to support. You never know, there might be the next Venus or Serena Williams in the crowd who just needs a little help to develop her talent."

"My experience with Sigma Nu really shaped my career," added Tinsley. He credits the lessons he learned as a Sigma Nu in part to his desire to help others. "It says a lot about Sigma Nu that we gave the money we raised at the coffee houses away to charity," explained Tinsley. "I was heavily influenced by Sigma Nu to give back, and that’s remained important to me."

To show his continued support of the Fraternity, the UVA graduate has made regular contributions to the Sigma Nu Educational Foundation since 1998.
