In Search of a Cure

Ever since Bo Johnson (Appalachian State) was diagnosed with stage-4 lung cancer in May 2006, the most frequent response from others has been, "I didn't know you smoked." The crazy thing is, he never has. The little known fact that non-smokers can end up with lung cancer-and die from it-has Johnson and his wife on a mission to spread the word and raise money for this seriously under-funded disease with a bad reputation.

In September 2006, Bo and his wife Christi founded Addi's Cure, a non-profit organization named after their 17-month-old daughter, to benefit lung cancer research and education. The Johnsons didn't know about Bo's cancer when Addi was born, and although Bo doesn't feel sick today, they know his cancer is serious and unpredictable. They founded Addi's Cure with the hope that Addi--and other children--might have the opportunity to know their daddy.
The Hopkins Society and Fifth Point Properties Announce Strategic Alliance

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Hopkins Society of Sigma Nu Fraternity, Inc., owners of the Beta chapter home, and Fifth Point Properties, a subsidiary of Sigma Nu Fraternity, Inc., are pleased to announce a strategic alliance for the management and preservation of the Beta chapter home.

Beta chapter is Sigma Nu's oldest active chapter, since fraternities are no longer allowed at Virginia Military Institute. This distinction is of historical significance to both Sigma Nu and the University of Virginia. The chapter home, constructed in 1928, sits at one of the most prominent gateways to the university and is one of the most visible and distinctive buildings on the campus. These facts make the Beta chapter home a significant property within Sigma Nu Fraternity. In an effort to best preserve and protect its chapter home, The Hopkins Society has hired Fifth Point Properties to manage and guide efforts to update and improve the property.

Brother Will Ride for Three Reasons

Believe in the Life of Love. . . Walk in the Way of Honor. . . Serve in the Light of Truth. . .

Bob Lee (DePauw) is a living example of these words that are so dear to our brotherhood. On March 29, Lee will set out on a 6,500-mile bike ride across the United States.
A Ride for 3 Reasons is an idea Lee conceived to raise
$65,000 each for three charities: the American Cancer Society, The Les Turner ALS Foundation and the National Hospice Foundation.

Earlier this year, Lee received a $65,000 challenge from the Duchossois Family Foundation if he could secure 650 donors prior to March 15th. He's accomplished that goal and more. Exceeding 1,000 donations, he has already received the $65,000 check and beat his initial goal of raising $195,000 ($65,000 for each of the three charities). In fact, with donations from 35 states and 5 different countries, he's raised $100,000 for each charity.

Lee has already heard from many supportive Sigma Nus as a result of an article in the February Foundation News Briefs Online. The story of Lee's ride has also run in the January/February issue of the Chicago suburb magazine Quintessential
Barrington
, and his alma mater DePauw University recently made note of it on their website.
