Evaluating the LEAD Program
|
Later this semester, Sigma Nu will again be conducting a Fraternity-wide survey on the leadership development of our members and the implementation and benefits of our LEAD Program. Results of that survey will be used to help strengthen the Fraternity’s programming. If you are an undergraduate, be on the lookout for an announcement e-mail from health@gmu.edu and please participate!
Since the inception of the LEAD Program, the Fraternity has recognized the value of conducting an independent, scientific evaluation of the program to determine whether it is accomplishing its intended purpose. Measuring the strengths and weaknesses of the LEAD Program helps to drive curriculum development and the results of the survey are anticipated to promote enthusiasm and support for LEAD among members and non-members. Independent research also provides credibility and builds academic respect for the program.

In 2006, the Fraternity took a major step toward this goal when it partnered with George Mason University’s Center for the Advancement of Public Health to pilot a new assessment survey that would evaluate and measure the |
effectiveness of the LEAD Program with thirty randomly selected chapters from across North America. Based on the exceptionally positive results of that evaluation, the Fraternity decided in the spring of 2007 to offer the assessment survey to all undergraduate chapters.
Every chapter’s participation in this survey is essential to the evaluation of the LEAD Program’s effectiveness, and it is imperative that all undergraduates participate. Regardless of a chapter’s or individual’s degree of involvement with the LEAD Program, it is important for every undergraduate to participate. The assessment survey will be sent out later this semester via e-mail directly from George Mason University’s Center for the Advancement of Public Health, health@gmu.edu.
Alumni can assist in this initiative by encouraging the participation of all undergraduates in this important effort. For more information on the LEAD Assessment survey please contact Scott Smith, Director of Leadership Development at 540-463-1869. |
