Braddick Named Director of Fraternal Operations

In the October 2006 issue of The Rock, we previewed a major transition being made at the Sigma Nu Educational Foundation. After 20 years of service to the General Fraternity, Executive Vice President of the Educational Foundation, James Owens (Charleston), left on January 1, 2007, to pursue the next stage of his career with The Pursuant Group, a Dallas based high-tech firm specializing in helping development professionals utilize email and the Internet to strengthen their fundraising and communication programs.

Owens’ successor, Brad Hastings (West Georgia), is certainly no stranger within Sigma Nu. Since 2001, Hastings worked in various capacities for the General Fraternity and, since 2005,
he served as the Director of Fraternal Operations. While exciting for both organizations, Hastings’ move to the Educational Foundation necessitated the naming of another qualified candidate to fill his shoes with the Fraternity.

On January 15, 2007, Timothy J. Braddick (Cincinnati) was named Director of Fraternal Operations for Sigma Nu Fraternity, Inc. Executive Director Brad Beacham (Texas Christian) said, "We’re excited to have someone of Tim’s caliber, both in experience and work ethic, filling this role. This allocation of staff resources will ensure the long-term success of our organization."
With the New Year now well underway, the General Fraternity is pleased to announce that two new Leadership Consultants and one new Expansion and Recruitment Consultant have joined our staff. Chris Hager (Ball State) and Andrew Meeks (Kent State) will be visiting our existing chapters while Nick Claghorn (Indiana) will be helping to establish Rock Chapters for the future. Before the three of them hit the road, however, we thought we should take a moment for some brief introductions. . .

As previously announced in The Rock and Foundation News Briefs Online, Brad Hastings (West Georgia) has stepped into the role of Executive Vice President of the Sigma Nu Educational Foundation following James Owens’ (Charleston) departure after 20 years of service to Sigma Nu.

For the last three months Owens and Hastings have been working hand-in-hand to effectively transition the position and its responsibilities. "I was very fortunate to spend this transition time with James as I prepared to step into the Executive Vice President role full-time. James’ practical guidance has been instrumental in preparing me for the position," says Hastings.

In recent weeks, action was taken by our High Council to revoke the charters of two chapters in response to numerous violations of the Fraternity’s law and policies, including acts of hazing. One of these chapters was a recipient of the Fraternity’s Rock Chapter Award in 2006 and the High Council has since rescinded that distinction. Our Fraternity’s position is clear - those who haze will face consequences. Please read on to learn more about these revocations. . .
