If you don’t know where you’re going, how will you know when or if you ever get there?
The Fraternity and Foundation developed strategic plans in 2000 and 2001, respectively. These plans serve as road-maps to guide the two organizations well into the future. Each year, the plans are reviewed and adjusted to maximize the effectiveness of both organizations.
The newly elected High Council members recently held their Strategic Planning Session. Their plan deals with numerous issues including:
| 1. |
|
Improving educational and leadership programs |
| 2. |
|
Increasing the number of volunteers and improving volunteer education |
| 3. |
|
Communications |
| 4. |
|
Expansion (Re-colonization and adding new colonies) |
| 5. |
|
Alcohol and substance abuse and misuse |
| 6. |
|
Improving our chapter homes |
| 7. |
|
Anti-hazing |
The same weekend, the Foundation Executive Committee and development staff met to discuss how the Foundation can best serve the Fraternity. Since 2001, the Foundation has made great strides. The donor-base has been broadened and most importantly, the Foundation has significantly increased its funding to the Fraternity.
An increase in communication via the online newsletters, the
Foundation News Briefs and The Rock, has allowed our key constituents to become better educated on the needs of Sigma Nu and to learn just how their financial support is helping to prepare today’s students to become leaders. James Owens, Executive Vice President, said, "With our numerous modes of communication, our members receive more timely information. I dare say that our alumni today are the most informed on the happenings with Sigma Nu than any other time in our 137 history. The best thing is that our level of communication will only improve with time."
As alumni, you can be proud that the leadership of the Fraternity and Foundation are setting lofty goals in an effort to improve Sigma Nu. Also, the standards set by the Legion of Honor are "raising the bar" for the entire Greek community. As we improve, so does the system.
