Iraqi Citizens Visit Lexington, Receive Proclamation
Dr. Sabah Al-Jadooa and his wife Shayma both Iraqi
citizens, were presented a Proclamation by City
Manager Jon Ellestead on behalf of Mayor John
W. Knapp and the Lexington City Council proclaiming
July 20, 2006, as SABAH’s DAY.

The Al-Jadooa’s were visiting Lexington as guests
of the International Headquarters of Sigma Nu
Fraternity. Sigma Nu sponsored the Al-Jadooa’s
journey from their home in Baghdad to the United
States to make educational presentations at the
Fraternity’s international convention held in
July in Indianapolis.
Dr. Sabah, a proponent for education in a Democratic
Iraq, has spent the last few years engaged in
the rebuilding of Iraq’s educational system. He
has become affiliated with American firms, supported
by United States Agency for International Development
and the National Endowment for the Arts, which
are working to effect wide-ranging reforms and
improve the quality of basic education in Iraq.
Dr. Sabah was initiated into Sigma Nu in 1952
while a student at Washington University in St.
Louis Missouri. His wife Shayma is a retired teacher.
