Iraqi Brother to Speak at Grand Chapter
We have just received confirmation that Brother Sabah Al-Jadooa and his wife, Shayma, both Iraqi citizens, will be speaking at the upcoming Grand Chapter, July 14-19, 2006. Brother Sabah was initiated into the Gamma Omicron chapter at Washington University in 1952. While there, he was a delegate to the 1953 College of Chapters held in Bloomington, IN. After completing his education in the United States, Brother Sabah returned to Iraq where he has lived with his family over the last 50 years.
During Grand Chapter, Brother Sabah, who has spent the last few years engaged in the rebuilding of Iraq’s educational system, will give a speech entitled, "Iraq, Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow." He will also hold a question and answer session. His wife, a retired school teacher, will offer another program addressing her experiences as an Iraqi woman.
The Fraternity began discussions with Brother Sabah regarding this trip last year. However, it was not until earlier this month that we learned that the U.S. Embassy in Amman, Jordan had approved their Visas. The projected cost of their trip is $10,000.
The Foundation has established a fund to pay the Sabah’s travel and lodging expenses for their trip to the United States. The trip will include a Pilgrimage to "The Rock" immediately following the Grand Chapter. From there, they will visit Washington, DC before returning to their home in Baghdad.
Gifts to support this cause can be made online or mailed to the Foundation. Please indicate that the gift is for the "Brother Sabah Fund."
