Remember This Titan. . . Coach Bill Yoast
The blockbuster hit film "Remember the Titans" introduced the world to a remarkable man, Brother Bill Yoast (Mercer). The movie told the story of how, in 1971, two racially diverse football programs were collapsed into the super high school T.C. Williams in Alexandria, Virginia. This story centered on two coaches, one black, Herman Boone, and one white, Brother Yoast, that had to set their differences aside to achieve a common goal. They did, and the Titans delivered a remarkable season and became one of the most talked about teams of all time.
What is more remarkable though is the journey that took a poverty-stricken adolescent from Tin-Can Hollow, Alabama to a Hollywood premier. Coach Yoast shares his story with his new book |

written by Steve Sullivan. In "Remember This Titan: Lessons Learned from a Celebrated Coach's Journey," Brother Yoast offers his personal recollections from that now-immortalized season as well as the coaching philosophy he developed in over 30 years of coaching. It is a story filled with sorrow and joy and chronicles the life of a man in search of answers. From picking cotton with a black sharecropper to an unparalled record of coaching success, the story takes you on a roller-coaster ride through the bright lights and darkest hours of Brother Yoast's life. It is a factual depiction of a man who understood what was right...and did it.
"Remember This Titan" is available at the online Bid for Brotherhood site. Brother Yoast has agreed to personally autograph each book that is purchased through the online auction site which benefits the educational programs of the Fraternity. Brother Yoast will also be present at the 62nd Grand Chapter in Indianapolis, IN, where he will autograph books and visit with the attendees.
