An Open Letter to All Current and Former Volunteers and Staff of Sigma Nu Fraternity and Foundation

On January 7, a very special lady, Ida Paxton, passed away. I know all who knew her will miss her.

Ida knew Sigma Nu backwards and forwards. She had a great mind and ability to remember people, places, dates, etc. When a staff member or a volunteer needed something, she always had the time to fulfill their requests.

When Ida began having difficulty climbing the steps to her office on the second floor, more than one person tried to get her to move downstairs. She would have no part of moving; she loved her office. You might say she was set in her ways, but who's to second-guess a great lady like Ida.

As I received phone calls from alumni around the country prior to attending the funeral, many asked what they could do to show their love for Ida. After talking with the staff and Ida's family, we all agreed that naming her office in memory of her would be a permanent way to honor Ida. Her office will be dedicated: "In Memory of Ida H. Paxton who served Sigma Nu for 47 Years."

To quote her husband Gene, "Ida loved Sigma Nu; she couldn't wait to get to work." If you would like to participate in this memorial, please make your contributions to the Sigma Nu Educational Foundation, and earmark your gift for the Ida H. Paxton Memorial.

Fraternally,

Michael D. Long, President
Sigma Nu Educational Foundation

P.S. The entire staff was seated together at Ida's funeral service. The remarks James Owens made told the story about Ida. "She was a kind, caring, intelligent lady, who was always there to help everyone. We all remember our Grandmothers and she was the perfect Granny." Sigma Nu is not only a fraternity but also a family, and our family would make all Sigma Nu's proud.
