Did you know that Sigma Alpha Mu has a rich history of long-serving professional staff?
That tradition can be traced back to two of the Fraternity’s
earliest employees; Grace Bender was on staff 44
years and Jimmy Hammerstein was the chief executive
for 28 years. Today, of the 11 current staff positions,
five staff members have served more than thirteen
years. The total time on staff for these
individuals
adds up to 120 years of service! Editor and Executive
Director Emeritus Bill Schwartz has been in the employ
of Sigma Alpha Mu since January of 1955; to our knowledge
he is the longest serving employee in the history
of the fraternity movement.
Staff tenure at Sigma Alpha Mu has created stability
and consistency that is rare today. Credit for this goes
to the many Octagons who have valued employee retention.
