Chapter Leaders Day

Which Sigma Alpha Mu program has the largest undergraduate audience? This article will take you farther behind the scenes of one of Sigma Alpha Mu’s elite educational programs: Chapter Leaders Day.

As you read in The OCTAGONIAN, Chapter Leaders Day programs are regional, drive-in drive-out meetings held in eight centralized locations. The program has been designed to offer specific education for priors, vice priors, exchequers,
recorders and candidate educators in smaller educational tracks. As such, each chapter sends those officers and is encouraged to send three additional emerging leaders to learn more about fraternity operation. In the fall of 2007, Chapter Leaders Day programs reached 304 student leaders from 53 chapters.

In total, the fraternity provided 56 hours of education about chapter management, council leadership, strategic planning, and other best practices. Chapter leaders learned from experienced fraters, ranging from Past Supreme Priors to members of the education committee. Those 56 hours provide great opportunity for interaction with facilitators and undergraduate men from other chapters.

The opportunity to build camaraderie and knowledge continued during the Foundation-sponsored luncheon. Foundation representatives shared information about the progress of the Centennial Campaign, the availability of undergraduate scholarships, and unveiled a new undergraduate giving campaign, called the Golden Bronze Society. A future Centennial Spotlight will share more information about this new program.
