Finding Her Dream

The summer after she graduated from high school, Eustacia Muir found herself in Malawi, Africa, working at a hospital. It was on that overseas trip that she fell in love with health care and discovered a passion for helping those less fortunate. That desire to help others eventually translated into a career as a nurse practitioner at a community health center in Newport, Rhode Island.

And, the idea of "lending to those less fortunate a helping hand" brought Eustacia to Phi Mu at Bucknell University, where she found that the ideals of Phi Mu fit in perfectly with her own personal values. Now, this bright young woman stays abreast of medical advances while juggling marriage, volunteering, church obligations and Phi Mu leadership roles.

While she dreams of traveling the world to visit every country, Eustacia helps fulfill the dreams of Phi Mu's three founders by volunteering to make the Fraternity stronger. She is currently the National Chapter Association Chairman, the President of the Rhode Island Alumnae Chapter and the President of the Beta Kappa Chapter Association. She has also served in various other capacities throughout her collegiate and alumna experience, notably as chapter president and as advisor to several chapters.

Eustacia encourages other Phi Mus to stay connected. "Be a part of your chapter association," she shares. "Or, if there is not an existing chapter association, start one!" She also encourages members to donate to Phi Mu Foundation. "I really feel that this is something that every Sister should do," Eustacia enthuses. "We don't all have to give thousands, just whatever we are able to. Each little bit helps."

The idea that "each little bit helps" seems to be a sort of mantra for Eustacia. Every day, she does a little bit to help brighten the lives of those she meets. And, every day, she strives a little bit more to fulfill the dream that she found in Africa.

Eustacia Muir, Beta Kappa, stayed connected to Phi Mu after graduation by joining an alumnae chapter near Philadelphia. When she moved three years ago to Rhode Island, she made new friends by starting an alumnae chapter in her new hometown!
