Safety
and Fun Can Go Hand in Hand
June 21 marked the official start of summer. With the
summer season come increased opportunities for good times,
but the opportunity for accidents also rises. Here, we
provide you with some safety tips to keep in mind as you
celebrate summer.
SUN
| |
 |
Always
wear sunscreen. Be sure to apply it 30 minutes before
going outside. |
|
|
| |
 |
Avoid
heat exhaustion by staying hydrated. Drink plenty of water,
even before going outside. And pets can get overheated
too, so make sure they have plenty of water. |
| |
 |
Never
leave children or pets in the car, even if the windows
are cracked. |
WATER
| |
 |
When
on the water or in a boat, wear lifejackets, not only
for your personal safety, but also to set a good example
for children. |
| |
 |
Boating
and alcohol just do not mix! Just as with a car, if you
are steering the boat, do not drink alcohol. |
| |
 |
If
you have a pool, install a fence at least four feet high. |
FIRE
| |
 |
Leave
fireworks to the professionals. Even the seemingly harmless
sparklers can reach temperatures in excess of 1,000 degrees
Fahrenheit. |
| |
 |
When
cooking out, make certain to review the owner's
manual before starting up the gas grill. For charcoal
grills, be especially careful when using lighter fluid. |
| |
 |
On
camping trips, follow park regulations concerning camp
fires. Be sure you take a fire extinguisher with you. |
If
you follow these tips, you are well on your way to a safe summer!
