Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, . . . and New Shoes!

If you’ve ever thumbed through one of the national bridal magazines, you may have seen Shelley Greene George’s, Kappa, creations gracing the pages. Shelley has started a line of elegant and comfortable wedding shoes for discerning brides. The label, Shelley George Design, Inc., is known for its beauty, comfort and craftsmanship. The shoes and matching handbags are made in Spain and Italy.

So, how did this young Phi Mu alumna go from graduating with a degree in Retail and Consumer Sciences to developing her own signature line? Through perseverance. "I was living in Seattle, WA," she shares. "I was working at a bridal shop and started noticing all the brides complaining about how difficult it was for them to find comfortable yet chic bridal shoes. This sparked my imagination!" After careful research, design, planning and financial arrangements, Shelley was ready to get her company off the ground. Despite other people’s doubts, Shelley stayed inspired by her desire to prove her naysayers wrong.

Today, Shelley runs the business from Nashville, TN, where she learns to balance work and personal life. Her two month old son accompanies Shelley to work on a daily basis, where she manages everything from marketing to customer service to product and brand design. In her free time, Shelley and her
husband spend time on their farm or with her parents, who live across the street.

Just as she’s had big dreams for herself, Shelley likewise has high hopes for Phi Mu. She is currently supporting the construction project for the new chapter house at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. And, she encourages other Sisters to stay involved with Phi Mu as well. "Supporting Phi Mu Foundation keeps all of our Sisters connected and close to one another. The close bond I have with my Sisters from college is the best part of Phi Mu."

With her energy, southern charm and high hopes, it’s no wonder that Shelley George has reached for the stars and made her own dreams, and those of countless brides, come true!

Kappa Chapter alumna Shelley Greene George offers her advice for other young alumnae: "If you can dream it, you can do it. Never let anyone break down your hopes and dreams. The most rewarding thing for me is having brides say how much they love wearing Shelley George shoes and sending friends to purchase our product."
