Phi Mu Young Alumna Makes a Big Impact, Both for Phi Mu and the Carolina Panthers

Jennifer Wu starts her day like most young women. She wakes up, brushes her teeth, showers and dresses, just like the rest of us. She makes her commute to work, battling traffic, just like the rest of us. But the similarities just might end there. For Jennifer is in a unconventional position: she is employed by the National Football League's Carolina Panthers.

For five months, Jennifer Wu has worked as a Luxury Suite Liaison at the Panthers' home, Ericsson Stadium, located in Charlotte, N.C. Jennifer manages relationships with luxury suite members throughout the year, supervises game day operations relating to catering for the suites, and serves as a member of the catering staff, assisting with special events throughout the year. Though she is a woman in what has long been regarded as a "man's world," Jennifer says that she has never felt that she has been treated differently by anyone because she is a woman--not by suite members, distributors or other NFL contacts. "I think that there may be certain organizations where the powers-that-be still think of [football] as a man's place, but I am really lucky that I work at an amazing [venue] where people really care about how you do your job and what you have to offer rather than what your gender is," she says.

And Jennifer has a great deal to offer. In addition to working in a fast-paced environment, she also works as the Dance Team Coach for Queens University of Charlotte. Despite her busy schedule, Jennifer still makes time for Phi Mu in her life.

In 1992, as an undergraduate, Jennifer was initiated into Kappa Omicron chapter at Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, Ga., where she was later graduated with a B.A. in English Communications. Jennifer served as her chapter's president, membership director, treasurer and Phi director. Upon graduating, Jennifer next attended the University of Georgia in Athens where she earned her Master of Mass Communication in Public Relations. Jennifer served as graduate counselor to both Mu chapter at Brenau in Gainesville, Ga., and Gamma Gamma chapter at Queens University in Charlotte. And Jennifer's legacy of giving back to Phi Mu Fraternity continues. She has served as the Area II Finance Director and the Area II Membership Director.

In addition to supporting the Fraternity, Jennifer also supports Phi Mu Foundation. "I believe that Phi Mu Foundation is at the very heart of the ideals of our Fraternity," she commented. "Through its support of philanthropic endeavors and scholastic support of our members, both collegiate and alumnae, Phi Mu Foundation does an excellent job of meeting the expectations of our founding principles. As a former Foundation scholarship recipient, I know that the support I received was due to the dedication and generosity of Phi Mu alumnae. Being able to contribute as an alumna is certainly an amazing feeling."

So what's next for this amazing young woman? Jennifer plans to continue to grow with and learn from the Carolina Panthers, where there is never a dull moment. And she hopes to see Phi Mu continue to grow and flourish. "With new chapters and members come new responsibilities for success. We have a commitment to our past, our present and our future as a Fraternity to continue to strive for excellence. With the new headquarters and leadership center, there are certainly bright things in our future as a fraternity," Jennifer proclaimed.

Jennifer Wu, Kappa Omicron, is not only an essential staff member for the Carolina Panthers football team, but she is also an outstanding Phi Mu young alumna. "I love that Phi Mu is truly a lifetime commitment," Jennifer says. "I have met so many people because of a Phi Mu connection. As an alumna, I am continuing to learn and grow as a Fraternity member. I love that it's not just four years."
