Phi Psi Receives Top Teaching Honors

On September 13 in a surprise ceremony, Daniel Kuznik, Valparaiso '98, was named the 2008 Indiana Teacher of the Year at Pike High School in Indianapolis, Indiana where Dan teaches math.

"This recognition is not about me, it is about the teaching profession as a whole," says Dan, "It will be an honor to have the opportunity and responsibility to represent the many great teachers in the state of Indiana."

Dan has always had the desire to be a teacher, dating back to his high school years when he had a few really inspiring teachers right in a row. He is respected among his peers and his love of the teaching profession is witnessed by all. "Dan is one of those rare educators who understands and embraces

the awesome responsibility of educating all children. His strength as a teacher is his ability to connect, interact and inspire his students to learn." says Pike Superintendent Nathaniel Jones.

Dan was chosen from the over 50 public and private Indiana educators and will represent Indiana in the national Teacher of the Year competition held in Washington, D.C in the spring of 2008. When asked what role Phi Psi played in him achieving his goals, Dan replied "Phi Kappa Psi gives many young men across this country an opportunity to learn leadership qualities and practice them firsthand."
