Creating Soldiers of Recruitment
The Kansas Alpha chapter house served as home for Phi Psi's Inaugural Recruitment Boot Camp (RBC). From June 15 - 17, 34 Phi Psi undergraduates attended the Recruitment Boot Camp: Special Ops program put on by CAMPUSPEAK and David Stollman.
After serving the National Interfraternity Conference as a recruitment consultant for two years, Stollman continued to share his recruitment message with organizations and |

campuses across the country. To date, he has spoken on more than 500 campuses and served on the faculty of numerous university and fraternity leadership conferences nationwide. He is also a frequent and popular presenter at regional Greek leadership conferences and currently serves on the board of the Association of Fraternity Advisors Foundation.
In one weekend, members received over 27 hours of training to help improve recruitment efforts in their chapters. "Recruitment Boot Camp focuses on the core of the Fraternity's values and how they affect the men who are interested in joining our chapters," explained Rob Nagel, Director of Leadership Development for Phi Kappa Psi.
Unlike many programs where participants are taught how to talk to people and find new members, RBC offers members a better understanding of how similar their chapters are to businesses that operate throughout the country. Members attended large group sessions which focus on topics including branding, alignment and hazing. They also worked in smaller groups and establish "SMART" goals for each of their individual chapters. "SMART" goals are measurable goals with deadlines. Alumni, Headquarters staff and involved facilitators will be following up with the participants in order to track their progress. "The Recruitment Boot Camp program is the only program I've encountered where the members are able to take something back to their chapter other than a thought or an idea," said Ron Ransom, Director of Expansion for Phi Kappa Psi.
"The struggle for recruitment is not typically the lack of available college men as much as it is the number of men who are willing to accept the stereotypes that fraternities have been tagged with. It is our responsibility to make sure we are changing that," commented a program facilitator.
