A Time for Reflection
Reflection is the
word that comes to mind for so many at the end
of another year. As we face 2008, many Phi Psis
remember their undergraduate experience and have
continuously over the years, afforded others that
same experience. While there is the obvious tax
benefit associated with donations to The Phi Psi
Foundation, a 501 ( c ) 3 organization, the personal
fulfillment and life long enjoyment outweigh all
other reasons to give.
“I spent four years in college really not applying myself
but the Phi Psi chapter provided me with a sense of
meaning and purpose. It’s wasn’t until after graduation
and many years in the workforce that I

realized how
much more I could have gotten from my college and Phi
Psi experience.” said William Gratz, Valparaiso ’56.
“I give back because I really do enjoy seeing young
men become successful. The school of their choice provides
one opportunity and Phi Kappa Psi provides the guidance
to reach their goals.”
For others, the fundamentals Phi Psi taught have been
utilized throughout life, and donors are grateful for
what they learned. “I had no idea of what Robert’s
Rules of Order were until I went to my first chapter
meeting. Now, many of the board meetings I attend use
those rules.” said Steven Corder, Nebraska ’81. My wife
Pat, Chi Omega, and I decided to support Phi Psi because
our Greek experience helped make us better people and
we made lifelong friendships with others. I am still grateful
for the scholarship I received from Phi Psi as an undergrad,
which eased the financial burden for my parents, and
I give back to afford others a scholarship and a great
Phi Psi experience.”
“Once a member, always a brother” is a common phrase
Phi Psis use when describing their commitment to the
brotherhood. “There is a life-time commitment associated
with membership in the Phi Kappa Psi. I view it as the
same life-time commitment I have to my family, the Army
and my country. Hopefully, my support will help others
share in the Phi Psi experience,” said Keith Troutman,
IUP ’70.
Wherever 2008 takes you, we hope you think of the Phi
Psi Foundation when you reflect on the impact Phi Kappa
Psi has had upon your life.
