Anderson Named Student Body President at the University of Iowa

On April 20, 2007, Barrett Anderson, Iowa '05 was inaugurated as the University of Iowa's Student Body President. But this is not the first time Barrett has been in a leadership role. In December 2005, Barrett was elected as president of the Iowa Alpha Chapter and served in that capacity for a semester. "Serving as the president of Iowa Alpha prepared me well for my duties as Student Body President", noted Barrett, "The motivation, values and character that I developed during my Phi Psi experience was
instrumental in giving me the necessary attributes to be the representative of 30,000
Barrett Anderson with his parents,
Fred and Vicki Anderson
students."

Barrett wasn't always interested in joining a fraternity. Recruited through Iowa Alpha's Nile C. Kinnick Freshman Scholarship Award, Barrett's presence in the chapter was soon recognized and his impression of fraternity's soon changed after meeting many of the brothers. "The excellent reputation of the Chapter around campus, the obvious success of the members and the high quality of brotherhood were the deciding factors for me. I have never regretted my decision to become a Phi Psi."

Juggling two majors, a minor and a mock trial during his term as Student Body President, Barrett has set lofty but attainable goals for himself. He aspires to better student life at the University of Iowa. He hopes to form a group of student consultants to work with the campus population in order to facilitate solutions to the university community's most common issues including improving campus safety and security.
