Gone But Not Forgotten, California Zeta Lives On
The long closed California Zeta Chapter from the University of California at Santa Barbara held its second alumni reunion July 21, 2007. The previous reunion, held in 2005 in Northern California, was attended by over twenty brothers and spouses. The most recent reunion drew almost sixty from as far away as Washington D.C. Many of these attendees were initiated between 1964 and 1971.
The California Zeta chapter was closed on May 31, 1995 but the original charter made it to the recent reunion and was united with many of the original signers. In addition to the banquet style festivities many brothers took park in a golf outing at the Sandpiper Golf Course which overlooks the Pacific Ocean and is near the U.C. Santa Barbara campus.
"What surprised many was that the bond of brotherhood was still evident after over 40 years. We all enjoyed each others company and a few of the brothers were delighted to find out that old friends whom they lost touch with were living just around the corner," commented Dave Sale, U.C. Santa Barbara ‘68, one of the reunion planners. After the golf game, the group met at Steve Mascagno's, U.C. Santa Barbara ‘65, fantastic home in Santa Barbara for conversation that lasted well into the night. "While I think we all miss having a facility to go back to, for most of us, the "house" was never the building but more importantly the men who made up the chapter." Sale said.
The next reunion will is scheduled for summer 2009 in Los Angeles.
