Celebrating Our Founding
Phi Kappa Psi’s Founders Day is February 19. On this day in 1852, Letterman and Moore joined together in a bedroom in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania and formed the Fraternity in hopes of helping those affected by an epidemic. Many chapters have their own unique way of observing this historic event. Robert Nagel, Director of Leadership Development for the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity, was able to join brothers from Oklahoma University and SUNY at Buffalo as they celebrated the distinctive establishment of our great Fraternity.
Oklahoma Alpha (Oklahoma University)

did an outstanding job as the emcee of the evening’s program. He provided an overview of the chapter’s activities over the last year and discussed future plans for chapter improvement. He also was successful in communicating, to the alumni in attendance, the importance of their continued support in the form of time, talents and treasures. A great time was certainly had by all present. "We couldn’t have hoped for a better turnout or hosted it at a more appropriate venue," commented one alumnus. Chapter advisor, Andy Ferguson, Oklahoma ‘00, was honored as the alumnus of the year.
New York Eta (SUNY at Buffalo)
Over 60 alumni from New York Eta and one from California Lambda came together to celebrate Founders Day 2007 in Buffalo, New York - a celebration which lasted the course of a weekend. The festivities kicked off with a trip to the Falls View Casino, where an alumnus of the chapter won the Thursday night poker tournament. On Friday, the New York Eta House Corporation held their annual Founders Day meeting at the Hyatt with House Corporation President Marc Brenner, Buffalo ‘86, presiding.
Friday evening was the annual reception at the New York Eta chapter house where alumni and undergraduates came together to mingle and discuss the past, present and future of the chapter. Alumni were thrilled by the improvements to the facility which included a brand new floor and sub floor on the first level and a fully occupied chapter house.
The Western New York Alumni Association meeting and annual banquet was held on Saturday afternoon where New York Eta Chapter President, Max Datz, Buffalo ‘04, discussed the positive strides the chapter has made over the past year. First and foremost was the commitment of the undergraduates to fill the chapter house for the next school year. The chapter has also made a commitment to a year-round approach for recruitment and continued to emphasize its dedication to their community service efforts in the local and on-campus communities. A special thank you goes out to local alumni Ron Dinino, Marc Brenner, Mike Jasper, Tom Patterson, Brian Meade, Tony Thothongkum, Andrew Camping, and Andrew Cappello, Fred Peterson, Greg Zini, Serge Yazbeck and Ayoub Yazbeck for their continued support of the undergraduate chapter and alumni association. Brothers Jeffrey Rubin, John Savio, John Cowhey, Matty Settapane, Andrew Cappello, Ron Dinino, Tom Patterson, Tim Dempsey, Justin Bailey and Jim Walline are very much appreciated for their kind donations. |
