A city made famous by livestock, BBQ sauce, and waterfalls in the outfield is playing host to the 76th Biennial General Convention of Phi Delta Theta. Kansas City, MO will host over 500 Phis from June 29 to July 2, 2006, at the Hyatt Regency Crown Center.

This is the third General Convention hosted in Kansas City. Phi Delta Theta has previously matriculated to Kansas City for a Convention in 1922 and 1990. The 1990 Convention marked a historical changing of the guard in Phi Delta Theta, when then-Executive Vice President Robert J. Miller retired. This year Educational Foundation President Emeritus Miller will be attending his 30th General Convention, the most of any Phi in the history of the Fraternity.

Scheduled to appear at 2006 General Convention: Former Kansas City Royals infielder and Baseball Hall of Famer, George Brett. Brett is a staple in the Kansas City community. During his baseball career, Brett accumulated over 3000 hits and led the Royals to victory in the 1985 World Series. Brett is no stranger to Phi Delta Theta. In 1986, he was awarded the Lou Gehrig Memorial Award, an award presented by the Fraternity to a Major League Baseball player who best exemplifies the characteristics and qualities of Brother Gehrig. Today, Brett remains very active in the Kansas City business and philanthropic communities, including Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, (Lou Gehrig's Disease) the Fraternity's official philanthropy.

Also appearing will be Founder and former CEO of KC Masterpiece BBQ sauce and restaurants, and Kansas Beta Phi, Rich Davis, Washburn '47.

And, University of Nebraska President and Nebraska Alpha Phi, J.B. Milliken, Nebraska '79.

General Convention will play host to the election of a new General Council. Current General Council President, Michael G. Scarlatelli, Kettering '76, will complete his term of office and make way for a new General Council President.
