MEET THE CREW -- MEGAN PETOCK
Africa Mercy Pediatric Nurse

When Megan Petock is not caring for patients aboard the Africa Mercy, she stays busy telling the world about its mission to deliver hope and healing to the forgotten poor.

Known as "Meggee" to her patients, the Philadelphia-native Pediatric Nurse keeps an online journal of the Mercy Ships 2008 mission to Liberia. She also writes regular columns for The Philadelphia Inquirer and Nursing Advance magazine describing the impact of free, world-class medical care on impoverished nations.

"Some of us have never known need.  Some of us have known only need," she recently wrote of her decision to volunteer for the privilege of serving the poor.  "We who are blessed did not choose to be so, but we can choose to help our brothers."

Now, as Megan nears the end of her year-long deployment aboard the Africa Mercy, she admits she's a little uncertain about leaving the highly structured life aboard the hospital ship, but confident that God will provide.

"The tide of change is coming in as it always does," she says.  "The Lord moves forward as He always does."

Those who are blessed helping those who are not.
Since coming aboard the Africa Mercy as a volunteer nurse a year ago, Megan Petock has captured the impact your generosity has on the lives of the forgotten poor in her online journal (MegIsInAfrica.blogspot.com)
