'Life Has Returned Again!'
Once scorned and ashamed, women don new dresses to celebrate the hope of a better future
Healed of a humiliating condition and singing African songs of jubilant praise, three women recently exchanged their drab hospital gowns for glorious new dresses to symbolize the beginning of their new lives.
They are no longer cursed as "wet" thanks to free, life-changing surgery that now prevents urine from leaking from their bladders. For millions of African women, a fistula--a hole in the bladder--means a life of disgrace, abandonment, and scorn.
Now "dry" and relieved of the shame, each of the 40 women who have undergone fistula surgery aboard the Africa Mercy this year received a vibrant new dress and a touch of make-up for the Dress Ceremonies.
Your support makes it possible for the professional volunteer doctors aboard the Africa Mercy to make a lasting difference in the lives of the forgotten poor--like these women--who suffer simply for lack of care, love, and respect.
