Burden of Debt Growing
The average American household is now buried under mortgage debt of $84,911, car and tuition loans of $14,414, home equity loans of $10,062 and credit card debt of $8,565--in sum, outstanding debt totaling $117,952. Doctors Show a "Faith Gap"
According to a new study, 57% of randomly surveyed adults said God's intervention could save a deathly ill family member even if physicians said treatment would be futile. However, just under 20% of doctors and other medical workers said God could reverse a helpless outcome.

The study was published last month in Archives of Surgery and is one of many to show a "faith gap" between doctors and patients.

Unmarried Population Gaining Steam
The U.S. Census Bureau recently issued information on unmarried Americans 18 or older that might help churches more effectively reach these groups. The statistics include those never married, widowed, or divorced:
  • 42% of American adults are single.
  • 54% of unmarried American adults are women, and 46% are men.
  • 60% of those who are unmarried have never been married, 25% are divorced, and 15% are widowed.
  • 16% of unmarried adults are 65 or older.
  • 9% of households were headed by a single parent in 2006, up from 5% in 1970.
  • 36% of voters in the 2004 presidential race were unmarried.
