Spring to the Finish for El Segundo Schools
After our successful fundraising event on February 27 at McCormick & Schmick's, we're well on the way to achieving the El Segundo Educational Foundation's (ESEF) fundraising goal for this academic year. people were in attendance, making it one of the Foundation's largest and most successful events to date. Many thanks to those who attended, bid on scores of wonderful auction items, enjoyed delicious food, and contributed overall to the success of the event. With the tremendous support of the local community and corporate donors, we are looking forward to making 2006 a record year for the El Segundo Educational Foundation.

However, we have not yet met our goal. At the completion of this campaign the Foundation's pledge to Foster Excellence in Education will provide $300,000 in grants to the El Segundo Unified School District (ESUSD) to support technology, writing, art, and music programs. These funds will be apportioned for technology training, support, and equipment ($150,000); TEDDE through 12th grade art and music programs ($102,000); and to partially fund teacher participation in UCLA's nationally-acclaimed Writing Project ($48,000), which will |
enhance teaching methods at all grade levels and better prepare El Segundo High School graduates for the rigors of collegiate English courses.
"Support for these important programs will help keep our schools on target," said Bruce Auld, ESUSD Superintendent. "In today's competitive world, there's a lot to be said for staying ahead of the curve. We appreciate the support the ESEF receives from the residential and business community, which makes possible many of the successes we've achieved in the District over the years."
