Bequests: Considering the Future of El Segundo's Public Schools
The El Segundo Educational Foundation (ESEF) is committed to supporting El Segundo's Public schools in order to help provide an excellent education for our local students. Every year we raise funds to support current needs for classrooms and campuses by garnering financial support from the corporate and residential communities.
This year, we began to place an additional focus on generating funds today that will support our students in the future through estate planned gifts to the El Segundo Educational Foundation. If you've ever thought about naming a charity in your will, consider that during your lifetime, a bequest is:

Superintendent's
Roundtable
Close to 90 Superintendent's Roundtable (SR) members and
prospective members attended a special wine tasting event
on Monday, May 15, 2006, in support of the El Segundo
Educational Foundation (ESEF). In an effort to increase
Superintendent's Roundtable-level support for the El Segundo
Educational Foundation, current SR members were encouraged
to invite friends and/or family members to this unique
year-end event. The wine tasting, held at Occasions, was
catered by Second City Bistro. Several current SR members
renewed their memberships that night and at least six
new families, businesses and individuals joined.

Spring
to the Finish for El Segundo Schools
After our successful fundraising event on
February 27 at McCormick & Schmick's,
we're well on the way to achieving the El
Segundo Educational Foundation's (ESEF) fundraising
goal for this academic year. Despite the cold
and rainy weather, the community showed up
in full force at McCormick & Schmick's,
which was closed to the public that evening.
More than 500 |

people
were in attendance, making it one of the Foundation's
largest and most successful events to date. Many
thanks to those who attended, bid on scores of wonderful
auction items, enjoyed delicious food, and contributed
overall to the success of the event. With the tremendous
support of the local community and corporate donors,
we are looking forward to making 2006 a record year
for the El Segundo Educational Foundation.

However,
we have not yet met our goal. At the completion
of this campaign the Foundation's pledge to
Foster Excellence in Education will
provide $300,000 in grants to the El Segundo
Unified School District (ESUSD) to support
technology, writing, art, and music programs.
These funds will be apportioned for technology
training, support, and equipment ($150,000);
TEDDE through 12th grade art and music programs
($102,000); and to partially fund teacher
participation in UCLA's nationally-acclaimed
Writing Project ($48,000), which will |
enhance
teaching methods at all grade levels and better
prepare El Segundo High School graduates for the
rigors of collegiate English courses.
"Support for these important programs will
help keep our schools on target," said Bruce
Auld, ESUSD Superintendent. "In today's competitive
world, there's a lot to be said for staying ahead
of the curve. We appreciate the support the ESEF
receives from the residential and business community,
which makes possible many of the successes we've
achieved in the District over the years." |

El
Segundo Golfers Support the Foundation
It was a beautiful day for a round of golf
in sunny Southern California on Friday, May
5th. More than 120 golfers showed up at the
Rio Hondo Golf Course not just for a day on
the links but to take part in the 18th
Annual Strokes of Genius Golf Tournament

schools. This favorite event among friends of the
El Segundo Educational Foundation was supported
once again by many corporate and community sponsors,
making the day a great success. Competitors included
some experienced "pros" who have participated
year after year in addition to a few who were newcomers
to this event. The Laker Girls were also on hand
to entertain. |
