Platinum Partner NRG Energy, Inc. Invests in Our Students

The ESEF's Corporate Partners are businesses whose leaders understand the importance of supporting education to benefit the entire community. Through their annual support for the Foundation, Corporate Partners demonstrate their commitment to ensuring the El Segundo Unified School District continues to provide its students with an excellent education.

NRG Energy, Inc., an independent power-generating company with significant assets and employees in Southern California including a major plant in El Segundo, recently

gave its fourth consecutive annual gift of $20,000 to the Foundation.

Steve Hoffmann, Executive Vice President and President, NRG West, says in addition to serving as a corporate representative on ESEF's Board of Directors, the Company supports the Foundation at the Platinum level through its Global Giving program, which places a priority on investing resources to strengthen the local communities where NRG employees live and do business.

"As long-standing members of the communities where we operate, we want to give back," Hoffmann said. Specifically, NRG gives preference to organizations, such as the ESEF, that meet the local educational needs of the communities they serve and are supported in partnership by the local community. "We take our commitment to education and community development seriously, and we applaud the work ESEF is doing to improve our children's future," he said.

Since 2001, Foundation grants to the ESUSD have provided more than $1.8 million for:

Technology: training, support and equipment; PowerSchool® installation (a Web-based attendance and classroom performance system providing secure online access to teachers, students, and parents); A high-speed wide area network connecting the ESUSD's schools to each other and to the Internet; and other technology enhancements.

Arts & Music: Funding for specialized K-12 art and music programs, a modernized sound system and refurbished grand piano for the high school auditorium.

Language Arts & Writing: Three-year UCLA Writing Project training for teachers to improve writing instruction at every grade level to better prepare ESHS graduates for the rigors of collegiate English courses; new state-required Language Arts textbooks for K-8th graders.

Equipment Upgrades: For the high school's new science building.

More than three dozen El Segundo area companies have consistently contributed to the ESEF with annual gifts ranging from $1,000 to $50,000, our largest corporate gift to-date. ESUSD's academic programs have been strengthened over the years because of support from Corporate Partners like NRG Energy, Inc. Thank you NRG for investing in the lifelong success of El Segundo students!
